IF
YOU HAVE PEANUT ALLERGY (OR OTHER FOOD ALLERGY),
REMEMBER THESE 5 RULES:
1. Always check food labels before eating
any food (or have your parents help with this).
2. Carry your Epi-Pens with you at all
times.
3. Wear your Medic-Alert bracelet.
4. Do not eat food if you don't know what's
in it.
5. If you eat something and feel sick,
tell an adult right away.
Safety
at School: Bring your own lunch. Don’t trade food with your
friends. Wash your hands after eating and encourage your friends to wash
their hands also. Do not sit at the same table with other kids who are
eating peanut butter or peanut products. Make sure your teacher(s) know
about your food allergy, how to recognize an allergic reaction and how
to treat it.
Consider
this.....
What about teaching your class about food
allergy? Bring a copy of The Peanut Pickle to your class. Read it to them.
Explain about your food allergy and how careful you have to be with food.
Give examples of foods that may contain peanuts (or whatever food you are
allergic to). Bring in food labels that have food allergy warnings. Show
them your Epi-Pen (but don't let anyone handle it!)
